Dining Out Paleo: Jackson's Market and Deli

Welcome to my Thursday series: Dining Out Paleo

Thursdays I post a recent dining out experience and how I chose the best possible options to stay true to a whole foods diet, opting for the freshest and most nutrient dense foods while avoiding grains, sugars, dairy, and soy to the best of my ability.  Unless informed otherwise, I always assume that the restaurant uses vegetable/canola oils for cooking.

Whenever I make the trek down to Culver City for a fabulous massage, I make sure to schedule additional time in the big city for lunch at Jackson's Market and Deli.  Oh, my mouth is beginning to water just thinking about the giant mountain of fresh crisp saladness that I have ever beheld.

Jackson's Market is tightly tucked on a small neighborhood street in the middle of Culver City with a very unassuming storefront.  Once inside, the smell of fresh cut deli meats, soups, salads, and house-baked goods permeate the air.  I try to get my order placed as soon as I arrive, otherwise I contend with the lunch crowd from the nearby film studios filing in and filling up the narrow market aisles and spaces.

Ordering is easy and the options are endless.  There is a menu of standard offering sandwiches, wraps, and salads or a vast list of ingredients from which to create your own masterpiece meal.

I like to start with bacon and add a side of prosciutto, then I pile on the veggies including some fancy-pants artichoke hearts and slices of avocado.  Once I submit my card to one of the staff members behind the counter, I enjoy shuffling by each of the shelves eyeing all the delicious goods, domestic and international, available for purchase.

Even the drink selection is a sight to behold.  With a generous assortment of teas, kombucha, lemonade concoctions, yerba mate, and many other unique bottled goodies, there is always something new to try with my lunch.  Once my name is called, I pick up and pay for my salad and depending on the options of the day, may add a side of soup.  Then I make my way into the lush garden patio area to enjoy my overwhelming container of delicious.

It is like a little Paleo paradise right in the heart of Culver City.  Who would of thought you could find something this amazing in the middle of an urban neighborhood??  Jackson's Market and Deli is the perfect little zen spot to refuel a healthy body and to quiet and recenter a noisy mind in the middle of all the chaos just outside the fence.
